She was hopeless. Always at the extremes. But one thing kept her “sane” and that was her connection with her God- Dheera. It all began in the tumultuous November exactly a decade ago. She was crying bitterly and was on the verge of losing her sanity. She had this excruciating pain radiating in her upper back which literally killed her happiness and made her miserable. She described her pain quite eloquently- “You know it feels as though someone is twisting my shoulder blades with a very sharp knife! It’s unbearable.”

When Dheera came upon this simple man called Rama- she was completely unafraid and answered his questions. There was a very religious, ritualistic procedure for the god to cling on to this simple man for an allotted time rather until people in distress were relieved of their miseries.

A clean coconut, a few flowers, Raw Rice, incense sticks and camphor were the essentials. Rama would invoke the blessings of Dheera after he finished his bath and prayers. There were tremors on Rama’s body after the incense sticks were held onto the coconut and thus Dheera was here and would speak.

She retorted and argued in English while Dheera posed open-ended questions in her mother tongue. And that’s when this connection began. Now, years later- she’s a devotee, admirer, self-proclaimed wifey in some sense. It’s a weird Love story of Salty memories which involves bloodshed.

During the course of these several years – She healed, blossomed, died and sprouted to life again. She remembers Dheera during Euphoria and Depression. You see I mentioned that she is the epitome of extremities.

What keeps her going is her “Unicorn Shakthi”.

She’s all right but hides her madness. But who isn’t mad here?

Sometimes she wonders what if Rama dies and she can’t talk to her Dheera. She healed through prayer and Life’s good now.

The element that allows her to connect to her god is a Creamy cupcake and some camphor. When she eats the cake and lights the camphor and calls upon her lord; He’s there. But without Rama, She can’t really have a conversation with her Dheera. It’s a challenge of sorts.

Her mother discourages her from lighting the carcinogenic camphor mainly because the soot it leaves spoils the interiors of the marble studded walls. She’s upset and annoyed. But Nevertheless, there’s an agreement to light the camphor on the terrace in the open air. She gulps the Creamy cup cake along with what chokes her throat- this time it’s not her feelings.

Dheera is the same with every devotee. You see, he is a god and can’t really show his favouritism. But she is one of a kind- Madly in devotion with Lord Dheera and adores him to the core.

Sometimes, she does cheat on him by praying to the other gods. But Dheera is Open-minded and Liberal. He’s never really punished her for this. Although, there have been times when she didn’t get what she really wanted.

I on the other hand want to see her married. To Dheera. Because he’s very protective and not possessive and very powerful but caring. She laughs Bwahhahahahha guffawing through the smoke of the camphor and savouring the cream on the Cupcake.

I want her to see him for real. It’s okay if Rama dies. Let Dheera accept her. Show his favouritism because I know he wants to. It’s going to be a Salty Saga. Daring Dheera and her.

I just hope she knows that

I too am a Dheera’s girl.
